Leadership TeamCharles Wheatley — CFO
Mr. Wheatley is Ventera’s Chief Financial Officer. He has more than 20 years of experience in accounting and a wide range of financial services, and applies that experience to overseeing all of the company’s financial affairs. Since joining Ventera in 2001, Mr. Wheatley has overseen all financial management activities for the company, including managing billing, payments, collections, and cash flow; directing Ventera’s banking relationships; developing of the company’s financial statements; and running all internal financial processes. In addition to his financial responsibilities, Mr. Wheatley also runs the company’s corporate IT infrastructure, all administrative support, contracts, security, and facilities. He serves as Ventera’s ethics officer, security officer, and compliance officer.
Charles joined the company in 2001, amid a downturn that saw revenue drop from $9M to less than $5M. Under his leadership, the company weathered the storm. He arranged for outside financial support to keep the company running, while allowing the company to stay completely in the hands of the original ownership group. Charles has since paid off 100% of the debt incurred, and also paid back commitments that the company had made to its employees, for 401(k) match and accrued leave.
Charles was recently recognized for his outstanding work by Washington SmartCEO Magazine. The publication named him among the first ever winners of its “Profiles of Financial Excellence Award.” The accolade recognizes Greater Washington’s Top 10 Smart CFOs.
Prior to joining Ventera Mr. Wheatley was the Vice President of Finance and Administration at iXL, where he was responsible for all accounting functions, preparing financial forecasts, developing corporate financial reports, and managing facilities. While at iXL, he led the transition to bring two acquired companies into iXL’s financial systems, reporting, and procedures. He successfully implemented a new project accounting and billing system, and managed a facility build-out of 31,000 square feet.
In a previous position with Dynatech Communications, Mr. Wheatley guided the transition to new ownership after the company was acquired by ACT Networks. While with Avery Denison he coordinated all financial and MIS aspects of a corporate acquisition, and managed the conversion of payroll, accounts payable, and general ledger to a new system.
Today, he participates in a broad spectrum of Ventera’s operations: strategic planning processes, prepares annual and quarterly budgets, develops models for revenue, profit, compensation, and oversees facilities, internal MIS, and administrative functions.
Mr. Wheatley obtained his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certificate in 1988. He holds a Master’s of Business administration (MBA) degree from the University of Virginia’s Darden School, and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University.
