Ventera Community Service activities 2010
Haiti support - Ventera participated in a number of community service activities in 2010. Sadly, the year started with the Haiti earthquake which resulted in hundreds of thousands of lives lost. Our employees were eager to help and identified several charitable organizations focused on this relief effort. Ventera provided a dollar for dollar match on employee contributions which yielded over $3,000 in total.
March Of Dimes - One of Ventera’s annual charity events is the March of Dimes walk. The mission of this organization is to support programs in the community that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. Fundraising events such as this walk help fund research to find answers to problems that threaten our babies and result in more than half a million babies born prematurely each year. Our team participated for the 3rd consecutive year in late April in downtown DC. Over the past three years, Ventera’s team has raised over $5,000 in support of this cause and we look forward to building on that in 2011 and beyond.
Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) - Ventera has a long-standing relationship with Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS). Members of our team are actively involved in several of their initiatives and our employees participate in at least one of their 'drives' each year (i.e. school supplies, food, or coats). This past year, we responded to a call for help in the early Fall timeframe. We normally conduct a food drive around the Thanksgiving holiday; however, NVFS was experiencing increased demand and needed support sooner. Through the generosity of our employees, we were able to respond and provide non-perishable food items to their local food pantry within a very short time period.
Care Package Drive - In addition to the food drive, we also participated in a Homeless Care Package Drive in the fall. One of our employees initiated this effort through his participation with Living Water of Washington DC (LWWDC) and Frontline Arlington. The Care Package Drive consisted of putting together backpacks for the homeless with items that they would need to keep warm during the winter season including blankets, winter hats, gloves, and warm socks.
The activities above reflect a sampling of events and initiatives that Ventera supports – and encourage our employees to participate in regularly. We take great pride in being part of this community and do all we can to embody our "Desire to Serve" operating principle.
