Government Services
Ventera is an experienced government IT services provider, helping our customers bring about real change in how they conduct their business, in order to help them better serve the public. Our government customers include the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Labor, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the General Services Administration (GSA).
Ventera understands the specific contracting needs of government managers, and this understanding makes it easy to work with us:
Ventera’s government customers recognize and appreciate our project approach, founded on the application of industry-leading methodologies. One such methodology is the globally recognized standard Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), sponsored by the Project Management Institute (PMI). PMBOK provides a consistent, methodical, and controlled approach to managing projects, which we tailor to the type, size, and complexity of each project. Ventera project managers receive project management training and most are certified Project Management Professionals (PMP). Ventera also uses the Rational Unified Process (RUP) methodology, an industry-standard approach to software development. Focusing on risk mitigation and quality assurance, RUP helps to ensure the development of high-quality software that meets user needs. All Ventera technical staff receive training in the RUP methodology and most have gained RUP certification. Methodologies such as RUP and PMBOK help Ventera to reduce project risk, start-up time, and effort by providing a common framework for communications – with the customer, among all project team members, and from the project team to senior management. These methodologies encapsulate best practices, and they evolve as best practices advance. Adopting these fundamental operating methodologies enables Ventera to consistently deliver IT solutions that meet or exceed our customers’ needs. A recent Ventera project for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) resulted in a highly successful system launch. Ventera led an effort to redesign an enterprise system for the USDA. The legacy mainframe system was no longer meeting the business needs of the organization, and the outdated and expensive technology presented risks to continued operations. The Ventera project team worked with USDA program and technical personnel to re-think how the information system should support business processes. Ventera then designed and developed a web-based application to more efficiently support organizational goals. The new system has reduced the amount of low-value activities, thereby freeing up government workers to focus on the most important aspects of their jobs. This web-based system is 508-compliant, supporting USDA’s goal to ensure that electronic and information technology (EIT) is accessible to people with disabilities, including employees and members of the public. Ventera delivered the new system in October 2004 and is currently developing application enhancements and providing user support. Ventera utilized both PMBOK and RUP methodologies on this project. Working with USDA, the team set an October 2004 delivery date in the spring of 2003, and then proceeded to meet the date, doing so slightly under budget. With high confidence that Ventera would successfully meet the delivery date, USDA scheduled just-in-time training for more than 300 personnel. |
