Ventera's origins stem from the Technology and Finance practice of
Coopers & Lybrand in the mid 1990s. In 1996, Robert Acosta felt
like the time was right to break away and launch an IT services and consulting business. He felt confident
that people like those he had enjoyed working with in the past – bright,
hard-working, highly motivated, and energetic – would be attracted
to a company where they could play a role in shaping something new.
During 1996 Robert began to attract some former colleagues from the Big Five as partners in this new business. Ventera’s first contracts were to develop web-based applications for leading telecommunications firms in Northern Virginia, including Nextel Communications, Metrocall, and Cable & Wireless. This grew into a broad-based telecommunications practice that today accounts for more than half of the company’s revenue.
Ventera quickly developed a reputation for implementing practical IT solutions, and word spread to customers in the financial services and other industries. Customers appreciated Ventera’s focus on improving and simplifying business operations, and delivering IT solutions that supported the revamped business.
Ventera began its first contract for the U.S. Government in 2000, redesigning business processes for the Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service – the federal organization responsible for the Food Stamps program. From that initial contract Ventera went on to build a major enterprise application for USDA, which went live in October 2004. Ventera is under contract to provide application enhancements and ongoing application support through 2007.
What began as a small entrepreneurial vision has grown to be a respected provider of premium IT services and consulting, working for some of the nation’s largest companies and government organizations. As Ventera continues to grow, we expect there to be many challenges, but also many rewards and opportunities. We want to take this chance to say “thank you” to all of our customers, who placed their trust and confidence in our company and our people, and also to thank the talented employees who have enabled us to reach this point in our history.
