T-Mobile
SORT Application – Source Of Records Tool
Customer Challenge:
T-Mobile needed a new, standalone application to support cell reconfiguration/rehoming features. When T-Mobile initially launched the new InSite, a modern replacement to their legacy cellsite management application, a planned-for but problematic functionality gap emerged: support for cell configuration/rehoming features. Because configuring and rehoming of cells can affect multiple downstream systems, the solution needed to be both highly reliable for the engineering resources and required numerous inbound/outbound data interfaces. The application also needed to be seamlessly introduced to the user community at the same time as the InSite cellsite management application launch to avoid disruption to any business vital processes.
What we did:
Ventera began by reviewing the existing business processes and data structures used in the cell configuration/rehoming activities. In doing so, Ventera not only sought out the replacement of the existing features, but also several opportunities to enhance both the front-end and the data interfaces. On the front-end of the new application, the search feature for cellsites and sectors was greatly improved to result in a faster, higher-quality user experience. The interfaces were also completely redesigned and rebuilt to be real-time instead of relying on older technology.
Results:
- Entroduced a high-quality application to 500 engineering users, to date allowing for the alteration or configuration of approximately 150,000 sectors in the network.
- Provided the user community a voice in requesting changes to the application by hosting frequent discussion forums.
- Ensured high-end reliability of downstream interfaces by creating a durable message queue. This prevents any transmitted network change from being lost due to an outage.
